What is Aromatherapy?

how does it help me?

Complementary Medicine

Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses essential oils to improve health of the body and mind. Sometimes it’s called essential oil therapy. People have used aromatherapy for thousands of years. Ancient cultures like China, India, Egypt have used plants in resins, balms, and oils as a complementary medicine, for at least 6,000 years.
Essentiall oils are extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant, through distillation (via steam and/or water) or mechanical methods, such as cold pressing. The aroma of the oils activate the smell receptors in your nose, which send directly to the part of your brain that controls your emotions, memory, learning and appetite. Inhaling essential oils stimulates different bodily responses, such as breathing patterns, blood pressure, and heart rate.

Promotes Healing

Each essential oil has many unique healing properties, uses, and effects. Combining essential oils to create a blend can give even more benefits. You can treat a wide variety of mental and physical problems with aromatherapy. Whether it’s alleviating pain, improving focus, uplifting mood, promoting restful sleep or aiding digestion, there are essential oils that can help the healing process.
Using the sense of smell and skin absorption, essential oils can be applied using skin products in carrier oils, diffusers, aromatic sprays, massage candles, inhalers, bath salts, hot and cold compresses, clay masks and facial steams. A few essential oils can be applied with a drop directly onto the skin such as lavender and tea tree. A skin patch test should always be done when applying any essential oil to the skin, in case of sensitivity.
